Getting the size right is the single biggest factor in whether a crease protector feels invisible or feels like you're wearing a shoe insert two sizes too big. Here's how to get it right the first time.
Start With Your Actual Shoe Size, Not Your Usual Size
Crease protector sizing is based on standard shoe size ranges rather than brand-specific fit. Small typically covers Men's 6-9 and Women's 7-10, Medium covers Men's 9.5-12 and Women's 10.5-13, and Large covers Men's 12.5-14.5. If your foot size sits right at the edge of a range, it usually works better to size up rather than down, since a shield can be trimmed but can't be stretched.
Think About the Shoe, Not Just the Foot
The same size foot can need different sizing depending on the shoe itself. A narrow dress shoe with a tapered toe box often fits best with a flexible shield sized precisely to the shoe, while a wider sneaker with more volume in the toe box has more room to work with. If you regularly wear both shoe types, it's worth checking the fit separately rather than assuming one size works everywhere.
Use the Trim Lines
Most crease protectors, including ours, include trim lines specifically so you can fine-tune the fit after the initial size is chosen. If a shield feels slightly too long or is pressing against the front of the shoe, trimming along these lines can resolve it without affecting the support the shield provides where it matters most.
Check the Left and Right Markings
Every shield is marked with an L or R along with its size, which matters more than it might seem. Left and right shields are shaped slightly differently to match the natural curve of each foot, so swapping them can throw off the fit even if the size is correct.
Signs You Have the Wrong Size
A shield that's too small will shift around inside the shoe or fail to reach the areas that actually crease. A shield that's too large will feel tight across the top of your foot or push the front of the shoe out of its natural shape. If either of these happens, it's almost always a sizing issue rather than a sign the product doesn't work.
